Our Mission

Our mission is to promote the mental and emotional health of individuals and families in Colorado and around the world by providing professional, research-supported Animal Assisted Psychotherapy (AAP) with rescued animals to people of all socio-economic backgrounds. We also aim to increase the knowledge and ethical practice of AAP through our international training and Certification program for mental health professionals and students.

Our Vision

Animal Assisted Therapy Programs of Colorado is a world class organization which provides over 250 animal assisted psychotherapy (AAP) services to individuals and families annually.  Our staff lead the field in subject matter expertise and we have a strong financial foundation that allows us to serve diverse groups within our community.   We provide a unique range of programs that include rescued domestic and farm animals and gardening to help children, individuals, senior citizens, veterans and families overcome challenges and thrive.  We offer a remarkable educational environment for students and clinicians to develop subject matter expertise in animal assisted therapy. Our trainees are critical partners who help expand the knowledge and use of AAP in their communities and worldwide.  Our AAP programs are well known and respected worldwide by psychotherapists, counselors and higher education therapy programs.

Our Values

AATPC values making a positive and reciprocal impact of all forms of life, including human, animal and nature through promoting the use of animal assisted psychotherapy.

AATPC only includes animals in its work that are positively enhanced by that work; each animal has a choice about its participation.

AATPC values teaching through example the mutual benefits of the human-animal bond.

AATPC values working as much as possible with each client’s strengths and building on those.
