Dr. Chassman and Ellen Winston have also developed an exciting new approach to working with children that teaches the parent to integrate the family’s pet to continue work at home. This approach, called Filial Pet Therapy, has also been found to enhance the parent-child, and child-pet relationship. Filial Pet Therapy can be very beneficial for children who have been adopted or are in foster care, as well as children with attachment problems, autistic spectrum disorders, boundary and/or social-relationship problems, parent-child problems, and other behavioral, emotional or social concerns.
