Early in 2022, Oliver began exhibiting eye and nose discharge and a small mass in his sinus area. The mass continued to grow and, after rounds of antibiotics, the vet confirmed that the mass is a tumor. We won't have further information about the tumor and what treatment(s) will be best without additional imaging and procedures. One thing is certain, however: We will do everything we can to help Oliver.
Oliver is an inspiration. He has come into his own as a therapy cat and, at the age of 8 years old, has learned how to live life again to the fullest.
Our initial fundraising goal is $3,000. With support from A Care for Strays Foundation, we only have $1,500 left to raise. However, this only covers the cost of the initial imaging procedures. The results of the imaging will indicate what additional procedures, if any, are required to save his life. Therefore, we hope to raise an additional $2,000 to cover additional procedures for Oliver. This could include radiation therapy and/or surgery. Should these procedures not be required, the additional $2,000 raised will be saved for future animal care emergencies.

Oliver has an unknown past. He was rescued off the streets and went to the rescue, Cat Care Society. He was then diagnosed positive with Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV). FIV doesn’t affect a cat’s life in any other way than making them more vulnerable to infections and disease. Their life expectancy is just as long and happy as any other cat. For Oliver, being FIV+, only means that he is extra special.
It is clear that Oliver’s past included a loss of trust in humans. While never aggressive, he made it clear that he was highly uncomfortable with human touch and proximity. We adopted Ollie with a hope that someday he would open his heart to us, but we knew that even if he never did, we would respect his space and love him forever.
Initially, Oliver taught us and our clients the importance of understanding boundaries and putting others’ needs above our own desires. That could have been it - the most important lesson Oliver had to teach us, but not long-ago Oliver began to surprise us all.
Over the course of the COVID pandemic, Oliver began to trust us and open his heart to us. He has since been sitting in client's laps, asking for pets, and playing with us. While he still appreciates his space, Oliver is now initiating these meaningful moments. This change in Oliver has touched us all.
We adopt many different species of animals. All of whom have different temperaments and histories. When an animal’s history or experiences mirror a client’s, there is an instant level of trust and desire for a relationship, because that animal understands their pain better than anyone else. Oliver connects particularly well with clients who’ve suffered abuse, who are learning to trust, who have felt lost, and for those who resonate with ‘second chances’.
As a nonprofit organization we rely on the generosity of our community to support the critical work we do. Oliver plays an integral role to that work. We are asking our community to help us.
Here's how you can help:
Send the animal(s) of your choice a slice of apple for $5 or send a whole apple to a large animal for $20. We will be sure to send you a thank you note from your animal and a picture of them enjoying their delicious treat. Your donation will help pay for the vet bills associated with Oliver’s care.
If your animal isn't in the apple mood when we send them your treat, we'll send you a picture of someone else enjoying it instead! Thank you for your generosity.
When we say vehicle we mean most any kind of vehicle - car, truck, boat, or motorcycle. They don't have to be currently running. You vehicle donation will be sold at auction or to salvage, depending on the condition, and the proceeds will be given back to us.
You old car could feed the horses for a year, or provide counseling sessions to someone who otherwise would be unable to afford them.
We have partnered with Vehicles For Charity to process your donated vehicles.Just call 1 866 628 2277 they will answer any other questions you may have and make arrangements to pick up your donation. Or click here and donate your vehicle through their online form.
What can I donate?
You can donate most any vehicle, including cars, trucks, boats, motorcycles and recreational vehicles. They do not have to be currently running. Your vehicle donation will be sold at an auction or to salvage depending on condition.
Is my donation tax-deductible?
Yes, Animal Assisted Therapy Programs of Colorado is a non-profit organization and all donations qualify as a charitable deduction on your federal income tax return.
What do I need to donate my car?
The title to the car must be in your name. We will also need some information about where the car is located and the condition of the car. This will assist us in scheduling appropriate towing arrangements.
Will you pick up my car?
A towing company will call you to schedule the pick-up of your vehicle. You will need to give the driver the keys to the vehicle as well as your signed title.
How is the value of my car determined?
The IRS allows you to take a charitable tax deduction on your federal income tax form equal to the amount the vehicle sells for at auction unless it sells for less than $500. If your vehicle sells for less than $500 you may deduct no more than $500. If your vehicle sells for more than $500, you will need to include the IRS form 1098C. Vehicles for Charity will supply this documentation after your vehicle sells. We recommend you consult your tax advisor with questions about your deduction.
Donations also fund animal care and facility maintenance so that we can focus on providing the best counseling services to all those clients who need our assistance. You can even designate your donation to help a specific animal! See our Animal Sponsorship Program for more information.
Your donations are tax-deductible EIN#: 45-4423891.
