Group Therapy
Sometimes, the most powerful healing happens when we realize we aren’t alone. At AATPC, our animal-assisted groups provide a supportive, social environment where participants can learn from one another while bonding with our therapy animals.
How Group Therapy Works at AATPC
In a group setting, animals act as "social lubricants." They lower the collective anxiety of the room, making it easier for participants to share, listen, and connect.
-
In-Person Groups: Led by our expert AATPC clinicians, these sessions integrate our rescue animals directly into the group dynamic. Whether it’s a "social skills" group for kids or a "process group" for adults, the animals help keep the atmosphere grounded and supportive.
-
Virtual Group Options: For those who cannot make it to our facility, we offer virtual group sessions. While the animals aren't physically in your room, our clinicians integrate them into the curriculum through video, storytelling, and observational exercises.
-
Partnering with Organizations: We also contract with outside organizations to provide weekly animal-assisted groups, bringing our unique brand of healing to your existing client base.
The Benefits of Animal-Assisted Groups
-
Building Empathy: Caring for or observing an animal alongside others helps participants develop a deeper understanding of perspectives outside their own.
-
Improved Communication: Animals provide a neutral topic of conversation, which helps "break the ice" for those who struggle with social anxiety or communication barriers.
-
Shared Resilience: Hearing an animal’s rescue story within a group setting often encourages participants to share their own stories of overcoming adversity.
-
Reduced Isolation: The combination of human and animal companionship creates a powerful sense of belonging.
